I rode from the Rens Lake side over to the Discovery center and back. The weather was good but the trails were wet and very slick…lots of mud believe it or not. There was snow in some places but totally clear in others. Plus it seems to be a little early in the season for 34/17 gearing on the SS. Definitely need a 20t freewheel.

Anyone know the current conditions from this past weekend?

I rode in LI this past weekend and it made me think of riding in the Pine Bush. (aka frozen sand).

Jim, it was awful. I got some time free last minute so I headed over on Sunday. It was like a swamp back there. An inch of standing water in some places, still snow and frozen ice up to an inch or so deep in others. And it's that hard crusty ice that's like riding in deep sand. Most of the hardpack singletrack is mud. The only part that was fun is that section along the edge of the peninsula that's right across from I-90 and even portions of that had snow/ice cover. Needless to say I did more hiking than riding.

Thanks Johnny. Fortunately or unfortunately, I am packed to ride there this afternoon (4pm). Will report back conditions.

FYI, it looks like Jockey Hill area is clearing!

Cool, let me know. If you end up going down to ride Jockey Hill please let me know. I've never been and would love to check it out.

Current conditions = 60/40

60% good and dry
40% snow or wet covered.

Should be good to go in 1 week, post rain.

Conditions at Rensselaer Lake were great today- almost summer-like when compared to the rest of the Pine Bush. The Water tower area is still covered by a glacier- 6"+ snow on some of the singletracks. Pock-marked ice on the main trails.

I did see 2 tire tracks ahead of me! Glad you liked it better than I did.

Jim-

We were out with lights at about 6:00-8:00 pm. The Renssalaer Lake side was definitely the best. The water tower was terrible. Blueberry hill and SEFCU not much better. Hope the rain is warm and another week or so of 40-50 degrees w/ some sun and we're ready to go.

I am soooo fake pre-loading this image so the navigation doesn*t skip while loading the over state. I know I could use the sliding doors technique to avoid this fate, but I am too lazy.
