The weather this past Saturday was fantastic. It was perfect for working on the trails. A small group of dedicated members was able to finish a bridge that was actually started last year. This bridge enables us to traverse a recently impassible section of the trail because of swampland. This new trail and bridge will also allow us to get to other further out areas of the property more quickly. A big thanks to The Crombachs, Rob Hanks, Jim Mitchell, Jamie Clechenko, Davis Wornall, and of course myself. It truly is amazing what a small group of dedicated and focused people can do. In total I think it took 14 people and maybe 8 hours total to complete the work on this bridge. Friggin' awesome!

I want to give a Big Ol' Thank YOU! to the people who gave up a sunny afternoon last Sunday to work on trail maintenance at Grafton in honor of Earth Day.
Hats (or helmets) off to Brian Treanor, Ryan & Heather Day, Andy Cedilnik, and Samantha Langton (and her dog Rosie), who came out and worked with me.
Wondering what 6 people and a dog got done in 3-1/2 hours? Here's the down-low. . . .
We raked and cleared blowdown (i.e. derailleur-killers) from all of Mill Pond trail, the Connector trail (from long pond road to the middle of the Bog), and the first half of the Bog going from Mill Pond parking lot out.
Also, Ryan and I marked out the proposed new re-route trail that will run to the north of the existing Spruce Bog trail to get us out of the worst of the muddy sections. Andy marked it with his GPS as well. Projected construction of this trail will hopefully proceed this Fall. We have to get a bunch of people from Grafton Parks and Rec and DEC to look it over.
The trails we raked out and cleaned up look like REAL singletrack trails now. it is unbelievable the difference some TLC makes. We will be posting pics of the "after" on these trails shortly.
Hope to see you all out at one of the upcoming trails work days. Check the Calendar and get out and you too can make a difference on your favorite local trail!

We kicked off the mountain biking season with two weeks of trail maintenance. Several people showed up and we all worked hard. We did most of the work at Lock 7. Afterward, pizza and beer (or Hot Toddies) at Mario's.
Many, MANY thanks to all who helped maintain the Lock 7 trails last night. We had a very productive and enjoyable evening. We had a nice turnout (11) and got through about half the work that needs to be done. Next week (April 25th) we get to do it again to finish the job. The Lock 7 trails are going to be GREAT!
So, please join us next Wednesday at 5:30 at the Lock 7 parking lot (at the boat launch). Bring gloves, water, narrow rakes, saws, pick axes, clippers and, just in case, a flashlight.
Again, thanks so much to those who helped last night!
